Bag&Baggage Announces Plans for Permanent Home

The Oregon theatre company will begin construction this fall for its own space.

HILLSBORO, ORE.: Bag&Baggage Productions has announced plans to begin construction on Nov. 1 for its first permanent home. The company has been in residence at the Venetian Theater for the past nine years, and the new flexible performance space and administrative home, which will be housed in a former Wells Fargo bank, is expected to be completed on May 1, 2017.

“There is no way to describe what an impact having our own home will have on our future and on the quality of our work,” said artistic director Scott Palmer in a statement. “We have had a remarkable nine years as Hillsboro’s resident professional theatre, gaining attention and national acclaim for our approach to theatre. With the new building, we are looking at an even brighter future for the company and our work.”

Bag&Baggage has raised nearly $1.1 million toward the capital campaign, and seeks to raise an additional $300,000 from individuals, businesses, and trusts by the time of the building’s completion. The theatre also received a $250,000 grant from MJ Murdock Charitable Trust, allowing the construction to begin six months earlier than initially planned.
