The lineup will feature a world premiere play by Michael Leon and a new Louis Armstrong musical.

MIAMI: Miami New Drama has announced its 2019-20 season, programming at the Colony Theatre

The season will open with David Greenspan’s adaptation of Thornton Wilder’s The Bridge of San Luis Rey (Oct. 24-Nov. 17), which focuses on interrelated characters involved in the collapse of an Inca rope bridge in Peru.

Next up will be the world premiere of The Cubans (Jan 23-Feb. 16, 2020) by Michael Leon, directed by Victoria Collado. The play explores cultural and generational clashes within a Cuban American family.

Following will be the world premiere of A Wonderful World (March 5-April 5), book by Aurin Squire, featuring songs popularized by Louis Armstrong. The musical follows Armstrong’s life and career, paying special attention to the women in his life. Christopher Renshaw will direct.

The final show of the season will be Lauren Yee’s The Great Leap (April 23-May 17), co-produced with Asolo Repertory Theatre. The play chronicles an American basketball team’s trip to Beijing on the eve of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests.
