Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company Announces 2016-17 Season

The season will include a world premiere from David Valdes Greenwood.

BOULDER, COLO.: Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company has announced its 2016-17 season, which will feature a world premiere.

“This season is a diverse mix of comedy, drama, and romance,” said producing artistic director Stephen Weitz in a statement. “It reflects our commitment to bringing the best new plays to Boulder and to Colorado and sharing experiences with our audience that they can’t get anywhere else in the area.”

The season will begin with David Lindsay-Abaire’s Ripcord (Sept. 15-Oct. 9), a comedy about a woman forced to share her quarters at an assisted living facility.

Next up will be the world premiere of Full Code (Oct. 22-Nov. 13), by David Valdes Greenwood, about a man in a coma after a freak accident, and the lover and estranged wife who care for him.

The first selection for the holidays will be The SantaLand Diaries (Nov. 25-Dec. 24), adapted for the stage by Joe Mantello from David Sedaris, about an elf working at Macy’s during the holiday season. Michael Bouchard will star as Crumpet the Elf.

Following will be Every Christmas Story Ever Told (and then some) (Dec. 8-24), by Michael Carleton, Jim FitzGerald, and John K. Alvarez, about three actors who set out to perform A Christmas Carol and decide to add some Christmas traditions from around the world to their production.

The season will continue with An Iliad (Feb. 2-26) by Lisa Peterson and Denis O’Hare, a one-person retelling of Homer’s poem that brings on a collision of the Trojan War with the world’s contemporary compulsion toward violence.

Next up will be Lauren Gunderson’s Silent Sky (April 6-30), about a female astronomer in the 19th century who sets out to catalog the stars and make groundbreaking discoveries in a purported man’s world of scientific study.

The Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company, founded in 2006, is an ensemble of theatre artists that produces contemporary plays and new works.
