Rhinebeck Writers Retreat Selects 19 Musical Theatre Writers

The writing teams will develop a total of 9 musicals over the course of 9 weeks.

RHINEBECK, N.Y.: The Rhinebeck Writers Retreat has announced the 19 writers and nine new musicals selected for its annual summer development program. The writing teams will each have a week-long residency in a private home in the Hudson Valley. Transportation and food is provided, and each of the writers will receive a $500 stipend.

The nine musicals were selected from a pool of 113 applications by a panel of new musical experts. The panel included Kent Nicholson, Donna Lynn Hilton, Kurt Deutsch, Jason Eagan, Mara Isaacs, Darrah Cloud, and Robert Zukerman.

First up will be Mark Sonnenblick’s Devotion (July 2-9).

Next will be Patricia Cotter, John Copeland, Ingrid Elizabeth, and Tylan Greenstein’s Mrs. Nash (July 9-16).

Following will be Jenny Giering and Sean Barry’s What We Leave Behind (July 16-23).

The following week will be Brett Ryback and Eric Ulloa’s Passing Through (July 23-30).

Next up will be Seven Broken Hearts, by Jeff Talbott and Will Van Dyke (July 30-Aug. 6).

The lineup will continue with Ben Bonnema and Christopher Staskel’s One Way (Aug. 6-13).

Following will be Saving Amelia (Aug. 13-20), by Stacey Luftig and Phillip Palmer.

Next will be The Seven Who Were Hanged (Aug. 20-27), by Kate Douglas and Shayfer James.

The final musical of the summer program will be Chris Miller and Nathan Tysen’s Eric Hermannson’s Soul (Aug. 27-Sept. 3).
