NEW YORK CITY: Rattlestick Playwrights Theater and Rosalind Productions Inc. have announced the New Voices/New Works summer reading series. The series will feature new works by Rattlestick alumni playwrights Dael Orlandersmith, Samuel D. Hunter, Antonio Edwards Suarez, and Lally Katz. The readings are free and open to the public.

Next up will be Katz’s Neighborhood Watch (June 20), a comedy about an unlikely friendship between a Hungarian immigrant and her twentysomething neighbor both hoping for a better world. Oliver Butler will direct.

Following will be two plays by Hunter (June 28), Lewiston and Clarkston, which follow two modern-day descendants of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark as they struggle to find a way forward in a world where there is nothing left to discover.

The series will also include the concert series New Songs Now (July 23- 27), in association with the New Neighborhood, which will feature two different songwriters in an open studio environment each night of the series. Guest artists will include Aya Azziz, Heather Christian, Ty Defoe, and Tidtaya Sinutoke, Greg Felden, Emily Gardner Hall, Ben Wexler, and more to be announced.
