L.A. Theatre Works Opens Audio Theatre Catalog to Nonprofits

Companies may access up to 2 plays from the LATW’s extensive backlog of recorded plays to share with their communities.

LOS ANGELES: L.A. Theatre Works has announced that nonprofit performing arts organizations can access its catalog of audio works, featuring more than 500 recordings of contemporary and classic plays.

“As the world’s leading producer of audio theatre, L.A. Theatre Works is uniquely positioned to be of service during this unprecedented crisis,” said producing artistic director Susan Albert Loewenberg in a statement. “Companies are free to choose any two plays from our catalog. We will provide digital links that they can stream on their website, email to patrons as a way to solicit donations, or use as they see fit. Companies might choose plays that align with their mission, such as science- or education-themed plays; plays they may have produced in past seasons; or recordings that feature one or more of their company members.”

To date, companies who have taken advantage of the offer include Theatre Development Fund (TDF), 24th Street Theatre, Arena Stage, Broad Stage, Center Theatre Group, East West Players, Goodman Theatre, International City Theatre, Lookingglass Theatre, Roundabout Theatre, San Diego Rep, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Skylight Theatre, Theatre J, and Victory Gardens Theatre. Other nonprofits participating in the program include the Museum of the Holocaust, National Center for Science Education, and the Feminist Majority Foundation. Interested companies should email Fritz Meier at fmeier@latw.org.
