Jeremy B. Cohen to Lead Ojai Playwrights Conference

Cohen will remain with the Playwrights’ Center in Minneapolis through June 2024, even as he begins programming for Ojai.

The partnership will see Black Theatre Coalition fellows working on an upcoming Black Broadway Men play reading.

The storefront theatre company, known for producing world and American premieres, will donate all remaining funds to 7 other Chicago nonprofits.

Valles will attend a new residency program created by playwright Jeremy O. Harris, who also selected Valles’s play ‘Bathhouse.pptx’ for the prize.

Jones wins for her play ‘Flex,’ which will open at Lincoln Center Theater this summer.

All of this year’s festival shows will offer pay-what-you-can tickets.

The investigative theatre troupe will work with anthropologist Dr. Haile Eshe Cole to create a play about doulas and Black motherhood.

Kaʻiukapu Baker, Claudia Brownlee, and Lia Wallfish were awarded this year’s scholarship at a reception last month.

The festival will be led by a 100% immigrant artist team.

The move coincides with news that film studio A24 has purchased the historic Cherry Lane Theatre in the West Village.
