Artistic director Chris Coleman’s last season will feature the return of Storm Large’s ‘Crazy Enough,’ a decade after its premiere.
The season will feature a world premiere by David Auburn and the final play in August Wilson’s Century Cycle.
Akhtar will receive a cash prize of $100,000 for his play about junk bond tycoons of the 1980s.
McLellan succeeds Paul Slee, who will depart the company after a decade as executive director.
The season will include classics like ‘Our Town,’ new musicals like ‘Fun Home,’ and new plays like ‘Native Gardens’ by Karen Zacarias.
Her play ‘Welcome to Matteson!’ will be developed at Chicago’s American Blues Theater.
The six-play lineup will feature five world premiere plays.
Colette Robert and ensemble company Little Lord are among the artists who will be given money and space to develop new work.
The season will feature a world premiere from Ike Holter and plays by Paula Vogel, Dominique Morisseau, Lauren Yee, and Madhuri Shekar.
The season will include the world premiere productions of ‘I Come From Arizona’ and ‘The Hobbit.’
