The theatre is planning to resume programming in fall 2021.
The October programming will examine the Shakespeare play and the current state of the world.
The fall will feature a solo play, a new play reading, and a series of monologues.
The event, which includes several Black theatres of Chicago, will consist of workshops, panels, and a united audition for Black artists.
The prize, given by the National Arts Club, comes with a $25,000 award.
The programming will feature archive recordings and a world premiere next summer.
Free Soil Arts Collective’s founder Christa Brown will join the MRT artistic staff.
The company will shift its focus to anti-racism work, education initiatives, and digital content.
Hughes will be presented with the honor at the Henry Hewes Design Awards virtual ceremony on Oct. 14.
