CREEDE, COLO.: Creede Repertory Theatre has announced that Catherine Augur will step down as executive director after nine years with the company. John DiAntonio, a member of CRT’s administrative and artistic staff since 2014, will fill the role of interim executive director, effective July 8. CRT’s board of trustees is conducting a national search, and it is their hope to have an expeditious hiring process.

Catherine started at Creede Rep as development director in 2008 and was hired as executive director in 2012. Under her leadership the company was honored with the William I. Howbert Award for Excellence in Arts & Culture by El Pomar Foundation in 2012, with the Colorado Theatre Guild’s 2015 Henry Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre, and as Finalist for the National Arts and Humanities Youth Programs Award for the KID Show in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.

During her tenure, the company grew its Headwaters new-play development program and created 15 world premieres, toured 10 productions, increased its endowment by $750,000, expanded the reach of its Young Audience Outreach Tour into six Southwestern states, developed and implemented a strategic plan, and celebrated its 50th season of providing repertory theatre to an annual audience of over 20,000 patrons.

“Working with Cat has been one of the great privileges of my theatre career,” said artistic director Jessica Jackson in a statement. “Her grace, thoughtful leadership, and humanity have brought this company into its best years.”

In a statement, Augur added, “It has been an honor and privilege to lead this organization that inspires such passion and commitment from its board, staff, company members, donors, patrons, and community. Founded on the tenants of repertory, ensemble, community, and education, and with a commitment to supporting the economy of our remote region, Creede Rep continues to be an agile company, eager to explore new ways of engaging with its artists and audiences through theatre. Even though I’m stepping down from this role so I can fully embrace the role of motherhood, my family and I will remain in this community. I am excited to watch the ways in which the organization will grow and evolve under new executive leadership, and I look forward to participating with CRT as a donor, patron, and volunteer, long into the future.”

Founded in 1966, Creede Repertory Theatre is a professional theatre company located at 9,000 feet in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, where it creates a diverse repertory season of plays, new works, and dynamic education programs.
