Offscript: Steppenwolf’s Next Steps

This week we say farewell to associate editor Jerald Raymond Pierce and talk to Steppenwolf Theatre’s new co-artistic directors Glenn Davis and Audrey Francis.

Offscript, American Theatre’s flagship podcast for a number of years, is back as a Facebook Live chat with the magazine’s editors and special guests as well as an audio podcast.

On this bittersweet episode we say farewell to associate editor Jerald Raymond Pierce, who joined AT in January 2020 and thus has been on a roller coaster of pandemic and protest coverage for almost his entire tenure. He leaves for a job at the Seattle Times, and we wish him the best; links to some of the memorable stories he covered for us can be found in this thread.

The main topic of this episode, though, could hardly be better suited to the Chicago-based JR: We talk to the new co-artistic directors of the city’s storied Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Glenn Davis and Audrey Francis, about how they joined the famous ensemble and what they have in store for its new space in a changed world.
