Playwrights Anchuli Felicia King and Emma Whipday’s works, inspired by ‘Othello’ and ‘Cymbeline,’ respectively, will be produced.
Also on the slate are ‘Fences,’ ‘Parade,’ and ‘Freckleface Strawberry.’
Finalists were ‘Dance Nation’ by Clare Barron and ‘What the Constitution Means to Me’ by Heidi Schreck.
The theatre will split its programming between its current venue and new home.
New artistic director Jamil Jude’s first season will include three productions authored by or focusing on women.
The lineup includes new works, a holiday staple, and a Tony Award-winning musical comedy.
The theatre’s 19-20 season will feature some gender-bent casting and plays by Kate Hamill and Lauren Gunderson.
The selected playwrights have been commissioned to write plays about science.
The lineup will include a family-friendly musical, a mature comedy, and ‘Fun Home.’
