The award will support the development of a new play to premiere at the theatre.

BOISE, IDAHO: Boise Contemporary Theater (BCT) has announced Eric Coble as the first recipient of the BCT River Prize. The award will support the development of his play Margin of Error (Or the Unassailable Wisdom of the Mouse and the Scorpion), which has been commissioned by BCT. The BCT River Prize is an annual leadership gift that supports a playwright through the development process of a new work. The playwright is given the opportunity to write, workshop, and develop a full premiere production.

“Every play travels a unique course, beginning from the idea at its source,” said BCT founding artistic director, Matthew Cameron Clark, in a statement. “The BCT River Prize provides the resources and openness to see where that course will take us.”

Coble’s plays Graphic Depictions and The Velocity of Autumn both received world premiere productions at BCT. “It’s a rare and wonderful thing to be commissioned to write a play,” said Coble in a statement. “It’s even rarer and more wonderful when it’s for a theatre you know, trust, and are eager to work with again.”
