NEW YORK CITY: The Lilly Awards have named Danai Gurira, Martha Plimpton, Kate Whoriskey, and Mia Katigbak among the women to be celebrated at the seventh annual Lilly Awards ceremony. The event, which honors women of distinction in the American theatre, will be held on May 23 at the Signature Theatre in New York.
The winner of the $25,000 Stacey Mindich Prize, which funds a new play by a female playwright, will be announced at the event. The recipient of the Leah Ryan Prize, with an annual cash prize and a staged reading, will be given to an emerging woman playwright at the ceremony.
Julia Jordan, Marsha Norman, and Theresa Rebeck founded the Lilly Awards in 2010 in honor of playwright Lillian Hellman.
