SAN FRANCISCO: PlayGround has announced their 13th annual Young Playwrights Contest, open to high school students from nine Bay Area counties. The theme for this year’s contest is justice.
PlayGround will offer complimentary hybrid in-person and online playwriting master classes to interested Bay Area high schools through the end of March to help students prepare for the contest. PlayGround will also offer two masterclasses in February for students whose schools are not able to participate.
The deadline for play submissions is April 12. Four finalists will each receive a professional staged reading of their work as part of the PlayGround Zoom Fest on May 28.
PlayGround will also offer free or discounted tickets to Bay Area students, based on financial accessibility, to their 2021 Solo Fest and Festival of New Works, as well as to the Monday Night Reading series at Berkeley Repertory Theatre.
