Offscript: A Peek at Education and Engagement Programming

Nikki Toombs of Atlanta’s True Colors Theatre Company and Tanya Mote from Denver’s Su Teatro share how engagement and education work fits their theatres’ missions.

Offscript is a podcast occasionally produced by the editors of American Theatre.

The October season preview issue of American Theatre is focused on education and engagement programming at theatre companies across the country.  In conjunction with that issue, TCG’s Audience (R)Evolution program will be rolling out a limited podcast series to further explore the topic. In this episode, associate editor Allison Considine spoke with Nikki Toombs, director of education at Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Company in Atlanta, and Tanya Mote, associate director of Su Teatro in Denver.

Toombs and Mote both talk about how education and engagement work fits into the mission of their theatres, and about upcoming programs they’re planning for the 2018-19 season. Mote also reported back from the theatre’s recent trip to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with students, and Toombs recalled some of the takeaways from the Milwaukee Intersections Summit for community
