Space 55 Receives Phoenix Mayors Arts Award

The small Phoenix theatre will be recognized by the city’s mayor in a celebration on Friday.

PHOENIX, ARIZ.: Phoenix mayor Greg Stanton will celebrate outstanding artistic leaders in the Phoenix area at the Mayor’s Arts Awards on Nov. 21. The awards honors outstanding leaders in six areas: visual arts, theatre, music, dance, public art and creative writing. Space 55 was named the honoree in the theatre category.

Space 55, founded in 2006, specializes in new and innovative theatre. The Mayors Arts Awards was launched in 2012 by Stanton to celebrate the cultural richness of Phoenix. More than 250 nominations were made for the awards by a panel of members from the arts and culture community.

The celebration will include a behind-the-scenes tour of the Phoenix Center for the Arts, and performances by the Rising Youth Theatre, the Phoenix Children’s Chorus, Voices of the Desert, Teatro Bravo, Cyphers and City Jazz.
