Valley Youth Theatre Announces 2016-17 Season

The lineup features new takes on familiar stories for all ages.

PHOENIX: Valley Youth Theatre (VYT) has announced its 2016-17 season, which includes many popular stories designed to appeal to audiences of all ages.

The season will kick off with Charlotte’s Web, The Musical (Oct. 7-23), a whimsical reimagining of the children’s book by E.B. White. This rendition was adapted for the stage by Joseph Robinette and features music and lyrics by Charles Strouse.

The second show of the season and a VYT tradition will be A Winnie-the-Pooh Christmas Tail (Dec. 2-23), which invites audiences back into A.A. Milne’s world of the Hundred Acre Wood, featuring music and lyrics by James W. Rodgers, with the classic and lovable characters Tigger, Piglet, and, of course, Winnie-the-Pooh.

Next will be a trip down the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland (Feb. 10-26, 2017), adapted by Anne Coulter Martens from Lewis Carroll.

Following will be The Secret Garden, The Musical (April 7-23, 2017), Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman’s adaptation of the classic tale by Frances Hodgson Burnett about an orphan who is taken away from her home in India to live with her reclusive uncle in England.

The season will close with a stroll down the yellow brick road in The Wizard of Oz (June 9-25, 2017).
