Staged! Announces Changes in Leadership

Founding artistic director Chanda Hall and executive director Diane Englert will leave the company, and Paul Angelo and Paige Rogers will begin on Aug. 1.

PORTLAND, ORE.: Staged! Musical Theatre has announced that its founding artistic director, Chanda Hall, and executive director, Diane Englert, both left their positions in July. On Aug. 1, Staged! associate artistic director Paul Angelo will take over as the company’s artistic director and Paige Rogers will take over as managing director.

Hall founded Staged! in 2005 with the mission to grow artists by nurturing talent onstage and off through stellar musical theatre. She created programs such as after-school classes in underserved communities and the S! Conservatory, a nine-month pre-professional conservatory program for teens. As a teaching artist, she has also served on the faculty of Northwest Children’s Theatre, Oregon Children’s Theatre, and Oregon Ballet Theatre, and has worked with New York’s City Center’s Young People’s Dance Series, and dance and the Child international (daCi). She is a member of Portland’s Emerging Arts Leaders and served on panels with Oregon Thespians, Regional Arts & Culture Council, and Portland Area Theatre Alliance. Hall received her degree in music performance with an emphasis in arts administration from Gustavus Adolphus.  Hall will remain on the board of directors for Staged! as she leaves to manage the Sherwood Center for the Arts in Sherwood, Ore.

Englert became the Staged! executive director in 2012. As executive director, she increased funding for the company, created a new works program, and directed the Drammy-award winning world premiere of John Hughes High: The 1980’s Teen Musical. She also coordinates the Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts. Previously Englert was the associate artistic director at Portland Repertory Theatre and was the co-founder and producer of SPECTRE Productions. Englert has directed for numerous companies, including 4×4= Musicals with Live On Stage, Northwest Children’s Theater, Oregon Children’s Theatre, and AHA! Theatre in Seattle. She received her BFA in theatre from the University of Utah and an MBA in nonprofit management from Marylhurst University. Englert will continue to work as a freelance director, writer, and access provider.
