McCarter Theatre Announces 2019 LAB Spotlight New Play Festival

The three new plays to be featured are each written by a female playwright.

PRINCETON, N.J.: McCarter Theatre Center has announced the lineup for its 2019 Spotlight New Play Festival.

The first play of the festival will be Alexis Scheer’s Our Dear Dead Drug Lord (Jan. 25), a thriller about four high school girls whose seemingly harmless fun turns into something threatening when the limits of imagination are tested. Scheer will also direct the production.

Next up will be Untitled Aging Play (Jan. 28), written by Jiehae  Park and directed by Knud Adams. A McCarter commission, the piece follows a couple exploring the effects of aging on their minds, bodies, and relationship.

POTUS, Or Behind Every Great Dumbass are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive (Feb. 4) will conclude the festival. Written by Selina Fillinger and directed by Jennifer Chambers, POTUS is a boisterous examination of what happens when a presidential P.R. nightmare becomes a global crisis.
