“Rincón’s script impressed readers with its blend of imaginative theatricality, piercing honesty, and vulnerable humor,” New Light Theater Projects’s literary manager, Jacob Perkins, said in a statement. “New Light New Voices is committed to partnering with emerging writers in order to foster an ensemble-based approach to producing new work. Rincón’s script embraces this ensemble-driven practice and maximizes its potential, creating an open discourse between artist and viewer.”

I Wanna Fuck Like Romeo and Juliet moves between outer space and Hackensack, N.J., to tell a queer love story involving the cosmic interference of Cupid and St. Valentine. Rincón’s other works include You Got That Same Kind of Lonely, That Rhythm in the Blood, and an in-development play titled “I’ll meet you outside the airport, ok?”

The finalists for the 2019/20 New Light New Voices Award are Rafetus by Ali Skye Bennet and Stew by Zora Howard. Past New Light New Voices recipients include Ray Yamanouchi’s The American Tradition, Dan Giles’ Breeders, and Anne Adams’ Strange Country.
