Landing Theatre Company Announces 2019 New American Voices Awards

The annual contest showcases their picks for current top works by American playwrights.

HOUSTON, TEXAS,: The Landing Theatre Company has announced the four 2019 winners of the New American Voices Play Reading Series, who will be honored and will present their plays in a weekend festival event at Stages Repertory Theatre (Mar. 15-17).

Hal Borden, of Philadelphia, Pa., has won for The Impossible Escape of Don Misterioso (Mar. 15). It tells the story Maxine Whitman, a journalist at Life magazine, who travels to a Guatemalan prison in hopes of interviewing Houdini’s believed last living assistant. Jonathan Gonzalez will direct.

David Spence, of Las Cruses, N.M., has won for W for the Gilbster (Mar. 16), about a weird guy named Gilbert and the possibility of life-altering change. Eric Moore will direct.

Brooklyn native Rae Binstock will present his winning play land of no mercy: un drama americana (en zvey aktn) (Mar.16), about two couples inhabiting the same Manhattan apartment generations apart. Stephen Miranda will direct.

Cecile Pace, of New York, N.Y., won for Ms. Emma Mole (Mar. 17), in which three women navigate their upturned lives in 1950s Wyoming. Jennifer Decker will direct.
