Token Theatre Friends: Code-Switching With Irene Lucío

Jose talks with ‘Slave Play’s’ Irene Lucío, and gathers 2019 reflections from Young Jean Lee, Aleshea Harris, Jaime Lozano, and others.

Twice a month on the Token Theatre Friends video series and podcasts, theatre critic Jose Solís and guests bring a POC perspective to the performing arts.

This week Jose talks to Irene Lucío of Slave Play about her incredible year, going from El Huracán at Yale Repertory Theatre to reprising her role as Patricia in the Broadway transfer of Slave Play. Lucío also talks about code-switching and her web series BUTS, a sort of Latina Key and Peele. And, as it’s the last episode of the year we hear from some of our favorite former guests and theatre artists (including Young Jean Lee, Aleshea Harris, and Jaime Lozano, among others) about their favorite theatrical experiences of 2019.

The audio of the interview is also available on the podcast.
