NEW YORK CITY: Broadway’s Best Plays has announced the slate of its “Spotlight on Plays” livestream reading series benefiting the Actors Fund, featuring plays from Adrienne Kennedy, Larissa FastHorse, Sarah Ruhl, and Pearl Cleage in spring 2021. The series will kick off tonight with Gore Vidal’s The Best Man at 8 p.m. ET. Tickets for the event are pay what you can starting at $5 and are available through TodayTix.

“We are thrilled that Spotlight on Plays has secured permission to present Gore Vidal’s The Best Man as a Benefit for the Actors Fund,” said Joe Benincasa, president and CEO of the Actors Fund, in a statement. “This play is especially timely as it reflects on the character and integrity, the idealism and the pragmatism, of the two opposing prospective nominees. On behalf of the Actors Fund, we thank the artists who make this benefit possible. In turn, their time and talent inspire the donors who make our good work possible.”

Vidal’s play leads off the fall slate with a star-studded lineup that includes Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Zachary Quinto, Vanessa Williams, Stacy Keach, and Phylicia Rashad. Additional 2020 readings will include Kenneth Lonergan’s This is Our Youth (Oct. 20), David Mamet’s Race (Oct. 29), Mamet’s Boston Marriage (Nov. 12), Neil LaBute’s adaptation of Uncle Vanya (Nov. 19), Donald Margulies’ Time Stands Still (Dec. 3), and Robert O’Hara’s Barbecue (Dec. 10).

Seven additional plays will be streamed in spring 2021, including The Ohio State Murders, by Adrienne Kennedy; The Thanksgiving Play, by Larissa FastHorse; Dear Elizabeth, by Sarah Ruhl; and Angry, Raucous and Shamelessly Gorgeous, by Pearl Cleage.
