NEW YORK CITY: Parity Productions announced the winners of its 2020 Parity Commissions at a virtual ceremony on Oct. 7. This year’s recipients are Jonathan Alexandratos for Turning Krasniqi and Amanda L. Andrei for Black Sky.
Parity awards two commissions annually, one to a woman (cis or trans) and one to a TGNC playwright. The selected playwrights each receive a $2,500 prize and developmental support for their play, including a reading with the Parity team and at least one public reading.
Alexandratos (they/them) is a non-binary writer based in New York City. Their stage work is interested in how ancient Queerness lives in the present. They have been supported by Nashville Repertory Theatre, Mission to (dit)Mars, Fresh Ground Pepper, PEACE Productions, the NY International Fringe Festival, Abingdon Theatre Company, Strange Sun Theatre, and others. Alexandratos is thrilled to be working with Parity Productions.
Andrei (she/her) is a Filipina Romanian American playwright whose work is epic, irreverent, and medicinal. Her work has been developed by Pasadena Playhouse, Playwrights Arena, La MaMa, Artists at Play, and others. She is a member of Echo Young Playwrights, Vagrancy Writers Group, producer at Aguas Arts Ink, and was recently named a Sylvia Clare Brown fellow at Ragdale.
Parity Productions produces new works with at least 50 percent of creative positions filled by women and/or transgender or gender-nonconforming (TGNC) artists. They also operate a database of women and TGNC artists.
