Offscript, American Theatre’s flagship podcast for a number of years, is back as a Facebook Live chat with the magazine’s editors and special guests as well as an audio podcast.
On this episode, we introduce our new associate editor, Alexandra Pierson, and speak to playwright Chisa Hutchinson about her new play Amerikin and its journey through the pandemic lockdown: Originally scheduled to run in March of 2020 at Houston’s Alley Theatre, it was then rescheduled for 2021, and is only now onstage, through March 13 (with a digital version available for rent March 14-27). Hutchinson talks about reluctantly relating to racists, about the mysteries of her writing process, and about state of the nation and the nation’s theatres.
