Scott DeVine to Remain Executive Director as Ensemble Theatre Company Merges Roles

DeVine will serve in a dual administrative and artistic role at the California company.

SANTA BARBARA, CALIF.: Ensemble Theatre Company (ETC) has announced that Scott DeVine will remain in the role of executive director as the theatre company changes its operating structure. ETC will merge the artistic and administrative functions under the purview of a single executive director.

“Scott has been an incredible addition to the ETC family and has assumed the sole leadership function of the company for several months,” ETC board president Bob Turbin said in a statement. “Since Scott joined ETC, he has helped us achieve several key advances in our administrative operations, and he has a talent and distinct vision for ETC’s artistic future. This has already translated to a remarkable 15 percent growth in subscribers over last year, which is an early indicator of the impact we expect Scott will have across ETC and the Santa Barbara community.”

As executive director, DeVine will work with the board of directors to lead the strategic direction of ETC, which includes the shape and direction of the company’s artistic future. DeVine joined ETC in 2022 and has served as executive director since last June, planning the company’s current anniversary season.

DeVine has nearly 30 years of experience in the performing arts and recently served as the general manager and chief financial officer of TheatreWorks Silicon Valley. He holds an M.A. in arts management from the University of Akron.

Ensemble Theatre Company produces five plays per season as Santa Barbara’s sole professional Equity theatre company. Founded in 1978, ETC strives to be a cultural-programming cornerstone of the Santa Barbara region. As of 2022, the theatre had a budget of approximately $2.8 million.
