Theatre Bay Area Announces 2025 Bay Area Theatre Week

Bay Area theatre companies will offer free and low-price tickets to audiences in a region-wide celebration of live theatre.

SAN FRANCISCO: Theatre Bay Area has announced the return of the Bay Area Theatre Week, a 10-day celebration of the local theatre community, running Sept. 12-22, with discounted and free events throughout the Bay Area. The official Bay Area Theatre Week calendar will be available and updated daily, launching on Aug. 12.

“ACT is excited to be a part of Bay Area Theatre Week, a region-wide celebration of the power of story, creativity, and community on our stages, in classrooms, and studios,” American Conservatory Theater artistic director Pam MacKinnon said in a statement. “We look forward to welcoming audiences old and new to the fun.”

“Bay Area Theatre Week reflects what Theatre Bay Area is all about: strengthening the connections between artists, audiences, and the incredible diversity of theatres across our region,” Theatre Bay Area executive director Sean Fenton said in a statement. “For our member companies, it’s a chance to showcase their work to new audiences and remind the Bay Area that live theatre is a vital part of our cultural fabric. For audiences, it’s an invitation to get off the couch, dive into your local scene, and rediscover why live performance just hits different.”

“I’m so excited that free events can now be a part of Bay Area Theatre Week,” San Francisco Shakespeare Festival executive director Toby Leavitt said in a statement. “We’ve been wanting to participate for years, especially since Free Shakespeare in the Park is often people’s first professional theatre experience, so I’m thrilled that performances of The Two Gentlemen of Verona at downtown’s Sue Bierman Park can be part of Bay Area Theatre Week this year.”

In addition to discounted access to theatre productions, Bay Area theatre companies will also open their doors for community events and workshops. More information on all productions, performance schedules, and ordering opportunities will be found on the Bay Area Theatre Week page on the Theatre Bay Area website, TheatreBayArea.org/BATW25, with links to participating theatres websites selling Bay Area Theatre Week tickets.
