New York Theatre Workshop Announces 2050 Fellowships for 2019-20

Six emerging directors and playwrights will participate in a yearlong residency with the company.

NEW YORK CITY: New York Theatre Workshop has named the six 2019-20 artistic fellows in its 2050 Fellowship Program. The yearlong residency provides artistic and administrative support for emerging playwrights and directors.

The season’s directing fellows will be Miranda Haymon, Kimille Howard, and Gabriel Vega Weissman.

This year’s playwriting fellows will be Matt Barbot, Jeesun Choi, and Kareem Lucas.

The 2050 Fellowship is named after the U.S. Census Bureau’s projection that by the year 2050 there will be no single racial or ethnic majority in the United States. New York Theatre Workshop’s fellowship program encourages fellows to look beyond that projection and think about the transformations that will take place in the U.S. theatre field.
