Boise Contemporary Theater Announces Season With 2 World Premieres

The 2019-2020 season will feature a new musical about the gay community of 1955 Boise.

BOISE, IDAHO: Boise Contemporary Theater (BCT) has announced its 2019-20 season, featuring two world premiere productions. The announcement comes after the most successful fundraising gala in the theatre’s history.

Boise Contemporary Theater’s 2018 production of “House of Tomorrow”.

“Each of our mainstage plays examines the vantage point at which we find ourselves: considering the great hope of what lies ahead,” said acting producing artistic director Benjamin Burdick in a statement. “We believe the future of BCT is bright, and we are incredibly excited to share it with this wonderfully supportive community.”

The season will begin with The Wolves (Oct. 16-Nov. 9) by Sarah DeLappe. DeLappe’s Pulitzer Prize finalist play follows a dedicated group of girls on an indoor soccer team.

Following will be the world premiere of the one-woman musical Tammy Lisa/Misery to Meaning (Nov. 20-Dec. 7), written and performed by Lauren Weedman. The musical explores the humorous side of divorce.

Next up will be Wendy MacLeod’s Slow Food (Jan. 29-Feb. 15), a marital comedy set in a restaurant.

The season will continue with Every Brilliant Thing (March 4-21) by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe. The play navigates grief and resilience through the eyes of a six-year-old boy.

The season will close with the world premiere of the musical The Show on the Roof (April 15-May 9) by Tom Ford with music and lyrics by Alex Syiek. The musical, which won BCT’s 2019-20 River Prize, tells the story of Boise’s gay community in 1955.

Founded in 1996, BCT creates thought-provoking stories to drive arts and culture in Boise and beyond.
