Jasson Minadakis to Exit Marin Theatre Company

The artistic director has served 17 seasons and produced 88 shows at the Northern California theatre.

MILL VALLEY, CALIF.: Marin Theatre Company (MTC) has announced that artistic director Jasson Minadakis will step down on March 31, 2023. Minadakis has served 17 seasons with MTC.

“I am honored to have served as the artistic leader of this organization for 17 incredible seasons. It has been a defining period in my career and my life, and I am proud of what we have achieved,” Minadakis said in a statement. “It is time for a new artistic leader to lead MTC into its next phase, and I’m excited to help the organization and the community through the transition period.”

MTC’s board of directors has formed a search committee to identify Minadakis’s successor to lead the company’s continued artistic growth.

Minadakis has served as MTC’s artistic director since 2006 and has produced 88 productions during his tenure, including 20 world premieres. He established the Sky Cooper New American Play Prize and the David Calicchio Emerging American Playwright Prize to focus on new-play development; the prizes were last awarded in 2019. Under Minadakis’s leadership, MTC became a member of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT). Minadakis has directed 32 productions at MTC and has worked closely Marin’s National Playwright in Residence, Lauren Gunderson, working to commission, direct, and film Gunderson’s The Catastrophist during the height of the pandemic.

Marin Theatre Company is committed to the development and production of new plays, and is dedicated to inspiring conversation, learning, and action to build more inclusive communities by providing a sustainable home for developing the work of diverse American playwrights and innovative theatrical experiences. As of 2021, MTC’s budget was approximately $2.1 million.
