NEW YORK CITY: The Latinx Playwrights Circle, in partnership with the Dramatists Guild of America, has selected ten Latinx/é playwrights to receive fellowships to attend the LPC Summer Jam. The inaugural cohort includes Tanya Perez, Nilsa Reyna, Diego Lanao, Phillip Burke, Jaymes Sanchez, Peggy Robles-Alvarado, Adrian Costa, Rebbekah Vega-Romero, Daniela Thome, and Andrew Aaron Valdez.
The Summer Jam will be a week-long writers’ workshop hosted July 23-28 at the main office of the Dramatists Guild in Manhattan. The program is specifically designed for Latinx/é playwrights aged 18 and above, providing them with an opportunity to delve into the business of playwriting and elevate their craft. Fellows will engage with award-winning theatremakers, including Dominique Morisseau, Kristoffer Diaz, Quiara Alegría Hudes, Rashad V. Chambers, Rogelio Martínez, Cándido Tirado, Caridad Svich, and many more. The program, made possible in part by a grant from the Dramatists Guild Foundation, aims to empower the fellows by immersing them in a transformative learning environment.
Fellows will participate in various activities throughout the week, including attending Broadway performances of Here Lies Love and New York, New York, and the LPC Fresh Draft Series development reading of a new play by Guadalís del Carmen. Fellows will hear from keynote speakers, including Patricia McGregor, the newly appointed artistic director of New York Theater Workshop.

Latinx Playwrights Circle is an artist-led development and production organization for Latinx(é) playwrights. Playwrights Guadalís Del Carmen and Oscar Cabrera founded Latinx Playwrights Circle in 2017 to build a network of Latinx playwrights nationwide to promote, develop, and elevate their work and to make their plays accessible to theatremakers.
