Managing Director Frank Mack to Leave Charleston Stage

His next gig is at Encore Musical Theatre in Michigan.

CHARLESTON, S.C.: Charleston Stage has announced that managing director Frank Mack will leave to take the same position at the Encore Musical Theatre in Dexter, Mich. Mack served as the theatre’s first managing director alongside artistic director Marybeth Clark, who succeeded founding artistic director Julian Wiles last May. Mack was on hand for Charleston Stage’s 46th season, and led development, marketing, finance, operations, and administration for the theatre.

“Being here at Charleston Stage and as a part of the vibrant arts community, I thoroughly enjoyed working with our talented staff, board of directors, and supporters, and watching the amazing talent on stage and with our children’s education programs,” said Mack in a statement. “Charleston Stage will continue to create great performances at the Historic Dock Street Theatre and in schools and communities across the state.”

Charleston Stage board members Valerie Morris and Jim Wick will share the role of interim managing director while a search for Mack’s replacement goes on. Board member Chelsea Rennhoff will lead the recruiting committee to find another leader to work alongside the theatre’s artistic director, Marybeth Clark.

Mack’s previous titles include executive producer at Utah Shakespeare Festival, and managing director at Connecticut Repertory Theatre, Geva Theatre Center, and California Shakespeare Theater.

Charleston Stage, founded by Wiles in 1978, is South Carolina’s largest professional theatre company. As of 2023, its budget was around $4.1 million.
