Breaking the Binary Announces Regional Theatre Partnership Program

The traveling workshop series for local TNB2S+ artists begins with Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in May and Steppenwolf Theatre in July.

NEW YORK CITY: Breaking the Binary Theatre has announced a new program called BTB Across America, in which they will partner with regional theatre companies to support local transgender, nonbinary, and Two-Spirit+ (TNB2S+) artists in those communities. Sponsored by Jody Falco and Jeffrey Steinman, the partnerships will launch at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in May and Steppenwolf Theatre in July, where the companies will produce one-week workshops of new plays by TNB2S+ artists based in Washington, D.C., or Chicago, respectively. The program will also offer open positions to other community-based TNB2S+ artists through the partnership.

“We are thrilled to be packing our bags and bringing our work to TNB2S+ artists in other areas of the country who might benefit from it,” said Breaking the Binary founding artistic director George Strus in a statement. “We are grateful to the teams at Woolly Mammoth and Steppenwolf for serving as initial thought partners for this program and hope they are the first of many regional partners in the years to come.”

Breaking the Binary Theatre is currently accepting submissions for the 2024 Falco and Steinman BTB Across America Program from artists whose work has not yet been produced by the partner theatres. Applicants are advised to send a résumé or other materials to info@btb-nyc.com for consideration.
