As a special offering in our Offscript feed, we share this monologue by Kevin Renn about the legendary fashion designer who gave the world the Playboy Bunny costume.

American Theatre is excited to partner again with the Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) to present another series of monologues about great figures from Black cultural history. CTH commissioned each of these pieces, and we’ll be rolling them out for the rest of 2025.

This month we’re please to share Chez Zelda, a short play by Kevin Renn about the groundbreaking fashion designer Zelda Wynn Valdes, who created the original Playboy Bunny costume and started the first Black-owned business on Broadway. It is performed by Marjorie Johnson.
