NEW YORK CITY: Nate Smith, the climate activist and artist who disrupted a performance of Enemy of the People on Broadway a year ago with Climate Defiance and Extinction Rebellion, will lead 6th Fest’s production of Stephen Adly Guirgis’s The Last Days of Judas Iscariot. On June 23 and 24 at Rodney’s in New York City, he will portray Judas, along with Hawley Gould (original Broadway cast of Suffs, The Ferryman, and Camelot) as Jesus, and Nick Mills (Succession) as Caiaphas the Elder. The performance will also mark the unveiling of the Broadway Climate Summit, with samples of original climate thriller plays as a benefit for the next phase of its work to protect the planet and country.
At the time of Smith’s actions, he was supported by Jeremy Strong on Seth Meyers, and featured in the New York Times for spurring and performing in a reading with Theater of War starring Bill Murray in Times Square, which was co-presented by 6th Fest.
The Broadway Climate Summit is a partnership between 6th Fest, One Up Action, and The Climate Imaginarium of Columbia. It will have its inaugural run on Sept. 22 during Climate Week NYC, the biggest climate symposium in the world. V (formerly Eve Ensler) and Stephen Adly Guirgis are among the advisory committee. The programming will include Pangaea by Carson Grace Becker and Nate Smith’s own cli-fi Tomorrow.
6th Fest is a climate production house, festival, and movement builder for life on earth, addressing the climate crisis in an effort to end the sixth mass extinction. They last partnered with Yellow Dot, the studio of Adam McKay (Don’t Look Up) on their ongoing comedy show HAHApocalypse, featuring headliner Ronnie Chieng (The Daily Show).
