‘Gwendolyn in Paris’: A Short Play About the Legendary Gwendolyn Bennett

As a special offering in our Offscript feed, we offer this monologue by Gethsemane Herron, performed by Candace Boahene, about Harlem Renaissance writer, artist, and journalist Gwendolyn Bennett.

American Theatre is excited to partner again with the Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) to present another series of monologues about great figures from Black cultural history. CTH commissioned each of these pieces, and we’ve been rolling them out since last fall.

For our final installment in this series, we’re proud to share Gwendolyn in Paris, a short play by Gethsemane Herron about the writer, artist, and journalist who chronicled the Harlem Renaissance in such publications as Opportunity and FIRE!! It is performed by Candace Boahene.
