His ‘Boys in the Band’ was more than just a play, and to those close to him, he was more than just a writer.
Fifty years ago he signed on to star in the historic gay play because he knew playwright Mart Crowley, but it grew into much more than a favor for a friend.
As a director, he’s interested in how people act on each other; he also has a visual instinct. Both came in handy for ‘Three Tall Women.’
