How a 68-seat cultural gem on the Jersey shore has stood the test of time for the sake of new plays.
The festival will include new works by playwrights Martin Giles, Inda Craig-Galván, and Tami Dixon, as well as a documentary following Sharon Washington’s writing process.
New plays at East West Players and People’s Light illuminate the collisions, and occasional solidarity, among people of color in a white-dominated culture.
The online and in-person fest will feature works from Inda Craig-Galván, Ty Defoe, Rinne Groff, and Kate Hamill.
The award recognizes her play ‘Welcome to Matteson!’
The playwright will receive $25,000 in recognition of her tragicomic play ‘Black Super Hero Magic Mama.’
6 L.A.-based playwrights will participate in the company’s year-long residency program.
Her play ‘Welcome to Matteson!’ will be developed at Chicago’s American Blues Theater.
